Offroad Pilot is a free tool for planning unpaved motorcycle routes. Below is what you can and can't rely on. In short: the routes are suggestions you check for yourself on the way, not a guarantee that a road is allowed everywhere. You ride at your own responsibility.

In short: Offroad Pilot is provided "as is" and free of charge, with no warranties. A route is a suggestion and an aid, not proof that a road is legally accessible. Always follow the signs, barriers and closures on the ground and stay out of protected nature and military terrain. You use the app at your own responsibility and risk. For public roads you need a valid licence, registration and insurance. This is general information, not legal advice.

What is Offroad Pilot?

Offroad Pilot is a free, browser-based route planner that tries to find a motorcycle route over as much unpaved (public) road as possible. The app calculates routes from open map data and shows the surface and the percentage unpaved per segment. You don't need an account and there is no charge.

No warranties, "as is"

The service is provided "as is", without any warranty, whether express or implied. We do our best to keep the app working, current and useful, but we do not guarantee that it is error-free, uninterrupted or always available, nor that the information shown is complete, correct or up to date. Features may change or be discontinued.

A route is a suggestion, not permission

A calculated route is a proposal and an aid. It is not a guarantee that every road in that route is legally accessible to motor vehicles, and not permission to ride anywhere. Whether you may ride somewhere is determined by the road authority and the situation on the ground, not by the app. So treat every route as a starting point that you check against the signs on the way.

Important: map data can be incomplete or out of date, and access can change by season or by a decision of the road authority. So never treat a route as a permit. You can read more about this in the guide where can you ride unpaved.

Your responsibility as a rider

You always ride at your own responsibility and risk. Among other things, that means:

Always follow the signs, barriers, gates and closures on the ground; they take priority over any planned route.
Stay out of protected nature (such as land managed by Staatsbosbeheer and Natuurmonumenten) and out of military terrain, even if a path looks rideable.
Ride on sight and adjust your speed and behaviour to the conditions, the weather and other road users.
Do not enter private land without the owner's permission.
Leave no trace and respect quiet, nature and other visitors.

Licence, registration and insurance: to ride on public roads you need a valid licence for your vehicle, and your vehicle must be registered and insured (third-party liability). Make sure you meet these requirements before riding a route.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damage, injury, loss, fines or other consequences arising from the use of Offroad Pilot or the inability to use it. This includes, among other things, damage caused by incorrect, incomplete or outdated route or map information, by riding a planned route, or by a temporary failure or unavailability of the service. You decide for yourself whether and how you ride a route, and you carry the responsibility for it.

Map data and sources

Offroad Pilot uses open data and third-party services. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors; routing and weather are provided via third-party services. These sources partly determine the quality and currency of the routes, and may contain errors or gaps. Their own terms and licences may apply. We may adjust these terms and the app from time to time, for example when adding new features or changing sources. The most recent version is always on this page. If you keep using Offroad Pilot, you accept the terms in force at that time.
