Offroad Pilot is built to plan routes, not to track you. There is no account, no login, and no advertising or tracking cookie. Below, in plain language, is what happens with your data, and, more importantly, what doesn't.

In short: no account and no login. No tracking or advertising cookies, no profiles. Your location is used only in your own browser to centre the map or navigate, and is not stored or sent to us. Your settings and saved routes stay in your browser's local storage, on your own device. To plan a route, the map, routing and weather services (OpenStreetMap, BRouter, Open-Meteo) receive coordinates; like any website you visit, those services see your IP address. We do not sell data. This is general information.

No account, no login

You don't need an account to use Offroad Pilot. You don't register, you don't leave an email address, and you don't log in. As a result there is nothing to tie to a personal profile: there simply is no profile to tie anything to.

No tracking, no ads

We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics services that follow you across websites. There are no ad networks on the site and we build no user profiles. The app runs largely inside your own browser.

Your location stays on your device

When you centre the map on your position or start navigating, your browser asks permission for your location (geolocation). That location is used only in your browser, to place the map in the right spot and show your position on the route. We do not store your location and do not send it to us. If you don't grant permission, route planning still works; you just centre the map manually.

What happens when you plan a route

To calculate a route and show the map, the app has to talk to a few external services. In doing so, coordinates (the points of your route) are sent to those services so they can return a map tile, a route or the weather. As with any website you visit, the service you call sees your IP address, which is technically needed to send the answer back. We have no control over what those external services log themselves; check their own policies if you'd like to know more.

Anonymous usage statistics

We count how many routes are planned and how many kilometres that adds up to. To do so, the app sends our own server only the fact that a route was planned and its distance in kilometres — no route location, no IP storage, no cookie and no ID. Nothing ties that count to you or your device; we only see totals. The app also counts your device once as a "new device", via a simple flag in your browser's local storage (see below), again without anything that could identify you. No third party is involved.

Which data leaves your device?

Short and concrete:

The coordinates of your route, to the routing service (BRouter) to calculate your route.
The map area you're viewing, to the map-tile service (OpenStreetMap) to load the map.
The location you request weather for, to the weather service (Open-Meteo).
Your IP address, visible to those services, technically unavoidable on any internet request.
When a route is planned: the fact that a route was planned and its distance in kilometres, to our own server as an anonymous counter — no coordinates, no cookie, no ID (see above).

And what does not leave your device: your captured location (that stays in your browser), your settings and your saved routes. We receive no account details, because there is no account.

Settings and routes: stored locally

Your preferences (such as language and the percentage of unpaved) and the routes you save are stored in your browser's local storage, on your own device. They are not on our servers. If you clear your browser's data, or use a different device or a private window, they won't be available there. This keeps you in control: you can delete them at any time via your browser. The statistics flag that makes sure your device is counted only once as a "new device" is one of those local settings too — it contains no ID, is not a cookie, and is just as easy to clear.

GPX files

A route you export as GPX is saved as a file on your own device (or shared with the app you choose yourself, such as your navigation app). What you do with that file afterwards is entirely up to you.

No selling, no profiles

We do not sell your data, do not rent it out and do not build profiles for advertising or resale. Offroad Pilot is free and account-free; there is no business model that runs on your data.
